Singing in a choir is a great way to make friends and build relationships with people who have a common interest - making music! Our choir is a growing and welcoming program full of open-minded and open-hearted people that will welcome you into our family from day one!
Our Stony Point Choir Officers host many social events throughout the year including Homecoming festivities, Spooky Season Social, Snowy Season Social, UIL Retreat, End of Semester or End of Year Celebrations, Choir Banquet, and MORE! These events offer an opportunity to connect with other choir students outside of their individual choir classes through different activities, contests, and games. FOOD is always a part of our social events! Join Choir, Join the FUN!
You already have a beautiful instrument! You will have the opportunity to sing a variety of songs from different styles and cultures, read music, develop great vocal technique, and learn performance skills. while building thinking skills such as concentration, memory and listening, and fostering creativity.
YES! Choir generally only uses one of your 8 class periods keeping your mornings and afternoons open for involvement in other activities and organizations outside of choir. If you are told there is a conflict regarding scheduling of choir and/or participation in other activities and organizations, please see Mr. Preston to discuss options.
YES! We sing the national anthem, fight song, and alma mater at all home games. For added fun, we even tailgate before some games! ALL choir members are invited, but not required, to join! This allows choir students to attend all home games for FREE!
Very rarely is there a required practice outside of the normal school day; however, your directors kindly host optional rehearsals for students preparing for auditions and UIL Solo/Ensemble Contest. Our Show Choir DOES meet before school for rehearsals.
Auditioning for Region Choir is not required, but it is strongly encouraged. Not only does it help you improve as a singer, it's a fun time to see friends, make new friends, and perform with other gifted singers. In high school, the Region audition process can have as many as four different auditions that ultimately place students in a Texas All-State Choir!
We do charge a $65 Activity Fee which includes a $15 cost required of all students as part of their informal uniform (t-shirt) and cleaning fee that pays for the professional cleaning of our formal uniforms. Also included is a $50 supply fee that helps purchase music, binders, pencils, highlighters, paper clips, and snacks that are provided to students throughout the year. If a student is unable to pay this fee, your Director is happy to work with you so you can still participate in choir activities!
